Terra Mitica..............A Holiday "MUST"

Benidorms biggest tourist attraction Terra Mitica opened its doors for the 06 season on March 25th.
Terra Mitica provides the perfect day out for all members of the family...from the kids who will love the rides to the grandparents who will marvel at the scenery.
It competes admirably with any of the theme parks in the States, and it's right here on our doorstep.
If you have never visited, read on for an in depth review.

Where is it?

Superbly located on the outskirts of Benidorm, you can see Terra Miticas magnificant roller coasters framed against the mountains from miles away.
It is easily accessed and very well signposted.
By car you can reach it from the A7 motorway, or if you're already in Benidorm simply exit the townalong the CV 70.
Alternatively, for a completely hasstle free day, jump in a taxi (approx 15euros each way, 4 passengers per taxi) or book with your tour operator.

What's there to do?

The park essentially is made up of five 'lands',and everything housed within them matches the theme.
For example, upon entering the park you will find yourself in 'Egypt' complete with impressive pyramids and the river Nile.
Then, depending on your mood, you can decide between a gentle riverboat ride, or head on by foot to the first 'white knuckle' ride-'The Nile Waterfall'.
Throughout the park you will encounter all sorts of unusual rides, you would expect in a theme park of this size, including the bumper cars, several roller coasters (varying in size)...a fantastic giant simulator and of course the 'Merry-go -Round) but its also home tothe more unusual ones like the 'flight of the phoenix',which carries you some 200feet into the air, before dropping you back to earth at a speed of over 120km per hour...........or Terra Miticas latest attraction Synkope.
A giant red wheel suspended from a central pendulum, Synkope holds about 70 people. When in motion it both spins and swings and the kicking and screaming occupants can almost be heard, back down on the beach.
But if it all seems a bit too hair raising for you, dont worry there are tons of gentler rides for you to choose from, and some excellent water based ones, which as the midday tempratures soar, are far the most popular.Waterproof macs are available ,but you wont want to wear one..this is one time when the promise of getting soaked whilst still dressed will be positivly welcomed!

And for the little ones ???

Kids rule in Spain so its no surprise that the selection of rides for children at terra Mitica is vast, dotted all over the park as well there is also a concentrated area dedicated especially to them where over a dozen minature versions of the 'grown ups' rides can be enjoyed by children up to about 9 years old.....depending on their height.

What else is there??

Rides aside Terra Mitica has lots of other attractions for you to marvel at.
The scenery alone is positively stunning because as you move through the park it changes according to the land and attention has been paid down to the tiniest detail.
From the food served in the restaurants to the plant life flanking the pathways, everything reflects the culture of the'land'
In 'Greece' for example, the shops are housed in 'temples' and in 'Rome' the live show takes place in a life sized amphitheatre, the 'Circus maximus' which brings us on to the live entertainment.

Live Entertainment

There is a variety of live entertainment on throughout the day, ranging from sketches performed at the 'roadside',to full blown productions worthy of any theatre.
They provide the perfect opportunity for a well earned rest from the afternoon heat and are always greatly received by the audience.
New for the 06 season is "Mac Nificus,El Gladiator" about a brave general who was betrayed by Ceasar's mother and thus decieded to become a gladiator. Like all of its predecessors, this comical cabaret combining circus acts, songs and plenty af sword swinging antics have been specifically designed to appeal to all nationalites and age groups.

Refreshments

There are numerous street vendors, bars and other outlets along the way designed to tempt your tastebuds, offering a range of goodies to suit all tastes from fresh fruits to ice cream sundaes. The are also dozens of fast food outlets to cater for those needing a quick bite between rides and if the fancy is for a long lingering cool interior, each land has a good quality restaurant, whos food once again reflects the 'land' you are in.
